A friend of mine sent me this off one of the blogs this morning -
Sherry: You have been quoted as calling the citizens of Lancaster a MOB.. Please explain to me and the citizens of Lancaster why they should vote for a candidate who considers activism on the part of the citizenry a bad thing? Here is my answer:
Dear fellow citizens,
I have been so mad at City Council meetings that I could have spit nails, but I follow the code of conduct because without rules we have anarchy.
I don't believe in throwing fits, throwing things, screaming, cursing, making threats, storming out, getting in someone's face and stare at them, etc. (activism?) to get my point across, I just do not go away until I am heard and I get answers. I do believe the citizens (I am one) need to be heard, but they also need to follow protocol and stick around to talk to those that can make a difference.
The citizens I've witnessed at City Council don't do that - they have had a mob mentality. Anger and bitterness don't get you anywhere - there must be civilized dialog. I am not afraid to ask hard questions, just as the first time I spoke with Norm Hickling I asked him, "Is Mike Antonovich really our friend?"
Just as citizens did not come to talk to me at two meet and greets held last month, they would rather listen to the gossip, rumors and innuendo than find out what I am about for themselves. This is how I operate - the first time Sharon Runner ran for office I volunteered to work in her office, on her campaign, to find out for myself what this woman was all about - I didn't rely on gossip and other people's opinion. I like to get firsthand information and make up my own mind. I would rather find solutions than assign blame that gets us no where.
I don't just talk - I do! I don't just complain - I do! I don't just gripe - I do! I don't just make false accusations and spread gossip - I do!
And I will do my very best if elected to City Council!
I hope you'll vote for me - I'll represent you, the people, the citizens, the law abiding taxpayers that love Lancaster and want to see it be a great place to live, and to be great we must be safe! Public safety first!!
God bless, Sherry
