Priorities for Lancaster

I want to do all I can to make Lancaster the safest, most attractive city in Los Angeles County. You might say, "That sounds great, but how are you going to do that?"

And I would tell you, "One step at a time." That is what I've been doing for almost two years now. Lancaster is not the dumping grounds of Los Angeles County. We aren't going to let that continue to happen.

I will get Lancaster's reputation back to what it once was: A nice place to live, a great place to raise your family, to go to church, and earn a living; without the fear of our homes being broken into. I will continue to confront crime and create progress by addressing the following:

Reducing Crime

This must be Lancaster's top priority!

  • Increase Sheriff's Patrols in our neighborhoods and parks.
  • A safe city is an attractive city! - when Lancaster is safe - business opportunities will be knocking down our doors to get in!
  • I will ask, "How are our Deputies being used? What is the best way to use our Deputies - Where is the Best Practices Consultation? There is a big difference in Deputies going from call to call and being able to patrol for crime. Intelligent policing!
  • Train Deputies to deal with Illegal Aliens
  • Obtain gang injunctions
  • Obtain a permanent specialized gang task force
  • Demand the decline in crime and violent crimes
  • Seeking tougher legislation against juveniles with State Assembly-members/Senators
  • Encourage the City of Lancaster to become a member of WeTip, Inc. (totally anonymous crime tip organization)
  • Shut down problem rental properties and stop Section 8 housing abuse;
  • Encourage more ordinances and tougher code enforcement - Norwalk has ordinances that charge the landlord for the Deputies time for calls to the property/and charge the parents for the Deputies time dealing with juveniles
  • Reward good property owners and landlords
  • Insist on more County inspectors/investigators
  • Insist H.U.D. enforce the rules that are already in place
  • Asking the Federal Government to reform Section 8 housing
  • Strengthen city ordinances to impede illegal immigrants who drain our local programs and penalize employers who hire them.
  • Go after businesses that employ Illegal undocumented workers
  • Guarantee Lancaster will never be a sanctuary city
  • Make English the official language of Lancaster
  • Pursue concealed carry permits for qualified citizens.
  • We know law enforcement cannot be everywhere and it is proven in other states that qualified/trained citizens who carry concealed weapons are a deterrent to crime

Fiscal Responsibility

  • Oppose higher taxes on homeowners and local businesses; let our taxpayers/law abiding citizens know we appreciate them and that they will not be ignored
  • Conduct regular audits to identify waste and economize city spending; scour the budget to cut unnecessary items
  • Cut unnecessary travel, consultant contracts and unnecessary spending by Council Members and staff.
  • No special training for city staff to comb their hair, brush their teeth and sit up straight for televised City Council meetings, etc.
  • Cut any unnecessary spending - magazine subscriptions, etc

Quality Planning

We must improve City Planning Standards to promote water conservation and protect our neighborhoods from inappropriate development.

  • Promote and encourage citizens to use/change to Xeriscaping - low- water landscaping (Palm Springs/Palm Desert)
  • What is truly best for Lancaster and citizens - intelligent development; let's put some real thought into this important issue - for instance I'm not so much interested in finding blame as to why was Lancaster Marketplace put where it was, but what is the solution to it now? How can we make the best usage of that shopping area?
  • Increase our tax base by providing more shopping and dining amenities.  That way, our tax dollars spent for these necessities will remain in Lancaster.
  • More family oriented amenities - bowling alley/pizza place/skating rink
  • Encourage taxpayers to spend their money in Lancaster
  • Support Intelligent Economic Development to create local jobs and reduce commuter traffic.
  • Promote more aerospace/engineering schools
  • Attract a four year university
  • Attract better restaurants/amenities

Water Issues

We have to plan for the future with regard to water problems

  • Clarify lawn ordinances (dead lawns vs dormant lawns)
  • Encourage Xeriscaping programs through the City of Lancaster (workshops)
  • Insist on Xeriscaping for new developments
  • Promote underground water retention stations
